Flatlander Market is a family owned and operated store. We opened in March of 2005. We spent the previous 17 years owning and operating sandwich shops that where located in office buildings. We went under the name THE GOURMET CAFE AND DELI and had locations in Itasca, Oak Brook and Arlington Heights.

In 2004 we decided to venture out into a traditional store front venue.

Marengo was an easy choice because we had lived here for 10 years and had watched it become a diverse and vibrant community in which to pilot our new concept for an upscale sandwich and coffee shop where people who love to cook can come and find unique food items and ingredients and share cooking ideas. But we also wanted to create a place for those who love to eat so they can enjoy well crafted menu items in a cozy atmosphere. This new venue has allowed us to express our creativity and passion for food and the joy of serving of our customers and neighbors.

Our store is a reflection of ourselves and also our community. The building in which we are located was built in the mid 1850s and is best known for having the longest running operation ( a men's clothing store) from 1853 'til 1996. In tribute, our store's decor reflects much of the building's history, from the rich maple floors to the 12' high ceiling and original and period lighting. The building is also registered with the State of Illinois Preservation Commission for having a Mesker facade. Look around at some of the classic advertisements and antiques along with some historic collectibles we have on display from time to time. We enjoy offering an eclectic variety of background music to create a different mood, not the same tracks playing over and over. We also offer fresco seating from May through August.

We hope this will be a neighborhood place for people to come, stay and visit with friends. Whether you live in Marengo or just pass through, we want you to think of Flatlander Market as your place - a place where you enjoy an atmosphere of warmth and community.

Lastly, we offer a private party room for groups of up to 45 guest for meetings and special events. Allow us to create a custom menu for your specific desires.
